Consider the Caftan

So I’ve always dressed like kind of a golden girl. I love excessive amounts of fabric, ostentatious gold jewelry and silver flat-form creepers that are mildly reminiscent of geriatric shoes. Alas, I feel that I solidly own my personal style and happily liken myself to being a bit of a Blanche with a sprinkle of Dorothy.

So a few years ago in true Golden Girl / Man Repelling fashion  I was strolling the isles of TJ Maxx on the hunt for my latest age inappropriate compromise, when I came upon the holy grail of Golden Girl Chic (and yes i’m coining that a thing), The World Fashion section: a delightful array of caftans and dashikis on display for my rummaging pleasure, and all modestly priced for about $10.00 a piece. At the time I was imagining myself going full Mata Hari, Greta Garbo, but in reality it was probably more like Mama Cass with a Bacardi mojito wine cooler.

So I was on my way to solidly embracing my Caftan which was quickly enforced by a celebratory hug from a stranger in the grocery store who was apparently…absolutely loving my look! Since then I could probably chronicle my Caftan wearing in some sort of short novel. From, house dress to best dressed its really is a total YES!

So in efforts to further pimp the Caftan, here are a few reasons why they are so great:

  1. You can always have that extra doughnut
  2. Easy, breezy, beautiful (sorry CoverGirl)
  3. You can swap clothes with your Grandma
  4. Stevie Nicks was a fan, and she is, well…everything
  5. Undies optional
  6. Cher.

TJ Maxx aside, this summer is full of gorgeous and luxurious options from many of our favorite designers, not to mention the tons of amazing vintage finds out there!
